A careworker, engaged to look after my elderly father, knocked against a Capo di Monti group of figures - 'The Cheats' - featuring two urchins passing cards under the table to defraud a third. The damage was severe - every figure was broken. My father was distraught. The piece, purchased many years before, had been treasured by my mother who had recently died. By chance I was in Islington and wandered into an antiques shop to enquire whether they knew of a reputable restorer. It was suggested that I contact Laurence Mitchell. Having inspected the damaged group, Mr Mitchell assured me that he could have ithe piece restored. His assurance was well-founded. In due course, Mr Mitchell personally returned 'The Cheats' to my overjoyed father. The restoration was perfect. In addition, Mr Mitchell went to great lengths to establish the value of the piece so that my father was able to claim insurance, not only for the cost of the restoration but also of the loss of value. The whole family felt indebted to Laurence Mitchell for his impeccable service and for his great kindness towards an elderly man. I am delighted, and confident, to recommend Laurence Mitchell.
